Letter to the Rector of the FLC / CGIL

Con la data del 26 gennaio 2011 è stata diffusa questa lettera, evidentemente indirizzata Rectors of all Italy:

Rector
with the approval of the Gelmini Law begins the difficult step of redrawing the statutes of the universities in a context of increasing reduction in funding. The distribution of FFO, with more than a year late, has highlighted the loss of resources for the entire university system by 4%. There remain, however, confirmed the cuts planned for the next three years by the Law 221/2010.
The FLC CGIL, from the beginning, he opposed all measures that the government has taken to undermine the autonomy, quality and the public face of the Italian university system. However, the definition of the new statutes is a step delicate and important matter that must be understood as an effective founding moment, able to revive the tools of self-governance of the university community and strengthen its democratic character. It 'just this, in our opinion, the challenge that gives us the dramatic context in which the universities are forced to revise their statutes to make this transition, contrary to the spirit of the law, an opportunity for renewal, and qualification democratic reform of the system. The movements of recent months, driven in particular by students and researchers but can involve all components of the university, have promoted alternative hypotheses for reform based on a participatory and democratic dimension of public degli Atenei. In this way they will make their contribution, in addition to teachers, researchers and precarious structured, students in recent months conducted a major fight in defense of the public University, the staff holding a decisive contracted the many activities of the universities . For this reason, the composition of the committees should have elective procedures.
Consistently we also believe that in future self-governing bodies of universities should be representative for all these figures and their contribution today and tomorrow, must be fully recognized.
The FLC CGIL is determined to make a positive contribution in the effort to reorganize the system Italian university, debased and checkmated by nefarious policies. With the same decision to continue with even greater force in the country and in the universities, the contrast to the measures of the government and the logic that it would impose a commitment to protecting and guaranteeing the public face of the university system, alongside all those who, researchers, students, temporary workers, teachers, contracted personnel, ordinary citizens have at heart the future.
We therefore consider it important to start now a discussion about our needs so that we can avoid unilateral decisions that would ultimately further stifling the democratic profile of the universities seriously compromised by an authoritarian and bureaucratic reform.

Regards. The FLC CGIL General Secretary

Domenico Pantaleo
